Just a few weeks ago I headed from my home in Las Cruces to the foothills of Alamogordo for a day in the life session with the C family. A full day, from mid-morning to late-evening, watching the beautiful monotony of a Saturday unfold. Before their session we through what the day might look like, breakfast and games, cooking and playing, but plans for these type of sessions are fluid and we oftentimes just end up going where the day might lead. So we started off this particular Saturday morning with a tour of their chicken coop and then we headed indoors. Our discussion was filled with talk of our favorite types of dog while scarfing down a delicious organic pancake and omlette breakfast. Abuelita happened to be in town that weekend and she loved helping the girls prepare their Valentine’s Day cards for the upcoming class party. Later that afternoon, while big sister was away at an orthodontist appointment, little sister and Abuelita jumped in the pool as dad watched in the shade of his beautiful porch. Man, to watch the interaction on the grandmother and her granddaughter…so much love and care toward this little girl, all laced with words of gentle teaching. And when big sister returned, a rousing game of Marco Polo dominated the remainder of pool time.
Our late afternoon and evening centered around piano, legos, and an exciting trip to the desert lead by the adventurous older sister. She took me through the paths her and her sister had earlier forged, and we watched for pirates (or bad guys, of some sort) and looked for treasure. Poor little sister’s adventure was halted before it really began when she stepped on cactus and mom had to rescue her. Abuelita brought bandaids and helped the girls get back to exploring closer to home.
Our time together concluded with talking under the living room’s fading light about mom and dad’s wedding and how beautiful she looked in her wedding gown. Oh, it was lovely. Just a normal Saturday, but filled with so much life.
I hope you enjoy the photos of your beautiful family.
